The Family And Medical Leave Act Is Family Stability

The Family Impact Principle that aligns closely with the Family and Medical Leave Act is family stability. The principle of family stability is focused on encouraging and reinforcing couple, martial, parental, and family commitment and stability. I chose this principle because I believe that the intentions of FMLA were to help with stability in families. Their purpose of the policy was to help with the balance of the workforce and family needs. I believe that they were trying their best to think of family’s commitment, but they need to dig a little deeper. The first question of Principle 2 ask does it â€Å"strengthen commitment to couple, martial, parental, and family obligations, and allocate resources to help keep the marriage or family together when this is the appropriate goal?† (Family Impact Institute, 2012). I believe that this policy is adequate because it does not allocate resources to help keep the marriage or family together. It definitely does strengthen commitment and help the family stay together by allowing the employee time off. For an example, it gives a father a chance to be them for the child’s birth and help take care of the mom. The policy understands the importance of being there for an exciting time like birth/adoption of a child. The second question asked does it it, â€Å"help families avoid problems before they become serious crises or chronic situations that erode family structure and function?† This question would be not applicable for the policy.
